The most confusing part of any Government Job Notification: "Age Reckoning Date".
Example:
- You are born on: 15 July 1999
- SSC Notification says: "Age as on 01 August 2026".
- Max Age Limit: 27 Years.
Are you eligible? Or are you 27 years and 1 day old? Manual calculation is prone to errors (leap years, 30/31 days). One mistake in calculation = Form Rejected later.
📅 Cut-Off Date Rule
Never calculate age from "Today". Always calculate from the "Date mentioned in Notification" (usually 1st Jan or 1st Aug). Our tool asks for this specific date.
Cheat Sheet: Common Cut-Off Trends
| Exam Body | Usual Cut-Off Date |
|---|---|
| SSC (CGL/CHSL) | 1st August or 1st January |
| UPSC (CSE) | 1st August of Exam Year |
| IBPS (Banks) | 1st of the Month of Notification |
| Railways | 1st January or 1st July |
FAQ: Age Calculation for Exams
Q: What if I am 1 day over the age limit? A: Unfortunately, government systems are strict. Even 1 day over makes you ineligible. Use our tool to be 100% sure before applying.
Q: Does it calculate leap years? A: Yes, our digital calculator accounts for leap years (29 days in Feb) automatically. Manual calculation is harder because of this.
Q: Can I use this for Bank PO exams? A: Yes, IBPS and SBI exams usually have an "age as of" date like 1st April or 1st August. Just select that date in the tool.
How to Check Eligibility
- Open Tool: Go to Age Calculator.
- Date of Birth: Enter your exact DOB.
- Age at Date: Enter the specific cut-off date from the official notification PDF.
- Calculate: The tool will show:
- "You are 26 Years, 11 Months, 29 Days old."
- Result: Compare this with the Max Age Limit.
Method 2: The Date Subtraction Method (Manual)
If you don't have internet, you can do it on paper:
- Write the "As of Date" (Future Date) at the top.
- Write your "Date of Birth" below it.
- Subtract Days first, then Months, then Years. Borrow days/months if needed.
How to Calculate Age Manually: Step-by-Step Formula
Age Relaxation Logic
If you are OBC (+3 Years) or SC/ST (+5 Years):
- Calculate your "General Age" first using the tool.
- Subtract your relaxation.
- Example: Tool says 29 Years. You are OBC (-3). Your "Exam Age" is 26 Years. You are Eligible.
