Railway recruitment notifications are famous for one thing: Confusion. "Age as on 1st July", "Age relaxation for OBC", "Ex-servicemen quota"... by the time you do the math, the deadline might pass.

For most Railway exams (NTPC, Group D), your age is calculated as of July 1, 2026. If the notification comes late in the year, this might shift to Jan 1, 2027.

- It will tell you: "You are 24 years, 3 months, 2 days old."
Step 2: Compare with Table
If you are applying for ALP (Limit 28) and you are 28 years, 0 months, 1 day old... you are Not Eligible.
Important Dates to Remember (Cut-Offs)
- CEN 01/2026 (ALP): Usually 1st July 2026.
- CEN 02/2026 (Technicians): Usually 1st July 2026.

FAQ: Railway Age Limits
Q: I am 33 years and 1 month old. Can I apply for ALP? A: No. If the limit is 33, being even 1 day older makes you ineligible. However, check if you have OBC/SC/ST relaxation.
Q: Do Railways give relaxation for Ex-Servicemen? A: Yes, usually age + 3 years after deduction of service period. Our calculator helps you check the standard dates, but manual calculation is needed for service deduction.
Q: Is the age limit the same for NTPC and Group D? A: No. NTPC (Graduate) is usually 18-33, while Group D (Level 1) is 18-33. Under Graduate NTPC is 18-30. Always confirm with the notification.
Q: Does '33 Years' mean till my 34th birthday? A: No. It means you must not have completed 33 years. If you are 33 years and 1 day old, you are overage (General Category).
Q: Is EWS getting age relaxation? A: Currently, No. EWS candidates have the same age limit as UR (General), only separate vacancies.
