UPSC's Unique 'Square Photo' Requirement
UPSC Civil Services (IAS) 2026 Requirements
Critical Rejection Rules
Rule #1: Name and Date is Mandatory
UPSC is very strict about this. Your photograph must have your name and the date on which the photograph was taken clearly printed at the bottom. Do not use a photo without this slate. The date should be recent (usually within 10 days of the notification date as per some specific notifications, or simply 'recent' for others - check the latest notification).
Rule #2: The 75% Face Coverage
This is a technical requirement often missed. Your face (from top of hair to bottom of chin) should not be too small. It must fill about 3/4th of the image. If you upload a photo where you are standing far away, the AI system will reject it as 'Face too small'.
Rule #3: No Glasses (Safest Option)
While UPSC notifications have been slightly more lenient than SSC regarding glasses in the past, the trend is moving towards a complete ban on eyewear to ensure biometric accuracy. To be 100% safe, **remove your spectacles**. Glare on lenses is an instant rejection.
How to Create a UPSC Ready Photo
Step 1
**Select Photo:** Upload a high-quality portrait. Ensure lighting is even on both sides of the face.
Step 2
**Enter Name & Date:** Use the tool's input fields to type your Name and the Date of Photo. This will automatically generate the required slate at the bottom.
Step 3
**Crop Square:** The tool will lock the aspect ratio to 1:1. Adjust the box so your face is centered and fills most of the frame.
Step 4
**Download:** The final image will be exactly 350x350 pixels and under 300 KB.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
❌ My photo looks stretched/squeezed.
✅ This happens if you force a rectangular photo into a square without cropping. Always use the 'Crop' tool to select a square area first.
❌ The name text is too small.
✅ Our tool auto-sizes the text. If it looks small, ensure you haven't typed an extremely long name. Use initials if necessary (e.g., 'A. Kumar' instead of 'Abhishek Kumar').
